To begin this delicious New York apple pie filling recipe, you will first need to take out a large sealable mixing bowl.
Next take out a sharp kitchen knife and peel, core, and slice up your fresh green apples. Place the apple slices into the mixing bowl along with fresh squeezed lemon juice. Seal the mixing bowl, and then toss the ingredients together. Next take out a Dutch oven, and pour all of your cold bottled water into it. Heat the water over medium heat. Next add into the water the sugar, all natural cornstarch, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and kosher salt. Bring the contents to a boil, stirring continuously throughout the process. Let the mixture boil for roughly two minutes, then add in the lemon juice coated apple slices. Let the apples boil in the mixture for about thirty seconds, then reduce the heat to low, cover the Dutch oven, and then let all of the ingredients simmer for about six to eight minutes, or until the apple slices are nice and tender.
Once done, let the concoction cool for half and hour.
Moving along, next ladle the contents of the Dutch oven into five freezer container, leaving about half a inch of headspace in each. Let the contents continue to cool at room temperature for another hour and a half. For the last step, seal each freezer container, and then slide them into the freezer.
The apple pie filling will keep for a whole year if stored in tightly sealed freezer proof containers.
